Reflecting or looking ahead?

My reflection on the class so far is really about looking ahead.  Looking at some of the topics that are on the schedule, I am very excited.  Our school just became a Google school last month.  I have been doing some experimenting with Google Docs and a few of the other tools so this is definitely a topic I want to explore.  Speaking of Google, has anyone else heard of Google Doodle?

We are also going to be using “blizzard bags” next year and each grade level needs to create an online blizzard bag.  The reading this week and making my first blog has me thinking this may be a good topic for my project for this class.  I really like when the classwork applies to what I’m working on “in real life”.

  1. Zach: Being a huge Google fan (of everything except Chrome, oddly enough) I LOVE Google Doodles. My Digital Arts and Sciences class in undergrad put a couple up when they first started (not, obviously, for the competition). I wish more schools would become Google schools, not necessarily because I love Google but just because it gets students away from Microsoft products. I'll spare you the anti-Microsoft rant that you'll probably hear from me at some point anyway but I'm just glad that Google is doing something to say "hey Microsoft, you're not the only ones that schools trust to make good products for student use!"

    1. We looked at both Google and Microsoft Live and did a little research. Both had good and bad features so it really came down to money. Google was much cheaper.

  2. Lebanon District is a Google district. I'm just now beginning to really use it. I don't particularly like how word documents print but that's really should be the least of my concerns. Google has some really convenient and easy tools that I have been helpful this week for this class alone. Sometimes information just doesn’t make sense until you’re ready to hear it, use it, and apply it. Below is a link to a document Top 10 ways to Get Started with Google Apps (K12) sent to me by our districts technology integrator. Some of this may be helpful or maybe you're already doing it. Maybe with some nudging more teachers will be ready – I know I am!

    1. I have trouble with Google docs not printing the way they look in the preview screen too. I would like to look at the document you put up but it says I need permission to use it and won't open.

    1. I'm really curious to learn more about google docs myself, our school is thinking about going that route.. Any chance your district uses moodle or mahara for e-portfolios? I'm going to have to check out those tips from Maggie, thanks!
